Biogel Overlay Maintenance: Your 3–4 Week Refill Guide

Biogel overlays need regular maintenance as your natural nails grow. Learn why Sparkle Organic Nails & Spa recommends refills every 3–4 weeks, what happens during a refill, and how it differs from a colour change or optional upgrade.

Biogel overlay maintenance keeps your overlay shaped and supported as your natural nails grow. At Sparkle Organic Nails & Spa in London, Ontario, we generally recommend a biogel refill every 3–4 weeks, with the timing adjusted to your nails.

Your colour may still look fresh when a refill is due. The appointment gives your technician a chance to check new growth, assess the existing gel and maintain the structure underneath the colour.

Our usual recommendation is a refill approximately every 3–4 weeks. Faster nail growth, longer nails or heavier daily wear may mean an earlier visit. Contact us sooner for lifting, cracking or discomfort.

A Biogel Overlay on Natural Nails Still Needs Upkeep

An overlay is gel applied over your own nails to add support and shape. Unlike extensions, it does not require added length. Our Bio Gel Overlay + Shellac service combines that supporting layer with a colour finish.

Your natural nails continue growing underneath the product. As they grow, the overlay moves forward and a gap appears near the cuticle. The length and shape change too, so the gel may need adjusting.

This happens on short nails as well as long ones. Biogel overlay maintenance remains part of the service even when you have no extensions.

Why We Recommend Biogel Overlay Maintenance Every 3–4 Weeks

For many clients, 3–4 weeks is a practical interval to assess new growth and maintain the overlay. Your technician considers how quickly your nails grow, the length you wear, your daily activities and how the product is holding up.

The visible gap is only one part of that assessment. An overlay can still look glossy while its shape needs rebalancing or a small area has started to lift.

There is no single schedule for everyone. Bio Sculpture’s product guidance also explains that maintenance timing depends on nail growth and natural nail condition. Our recommendation should be adjusted to what your nails need.

Your colour can still look fresh when your overlay is ready for maintenance.

What Happens During a Biogel Overlay Refill

A biogel overlay refill involves more than filling the visible gap. Before adding fresh gel, your technician assesses the existing product and whether it is suitable to maintain.

  1. Check the nails and overlay. Look at new growth, lifting, cracks and the condition of the nails.
  2. Adjust the length. Shorten and reshape where appropriate.
  3. Prepare the remaining product. Address lifting and refine the existing gel as needed.
  4. Apply fresh gel. Cover the prepared new growth and restore the overlay’s shape and support.
  5. Finish the nails. Refine the surface and apply the chosen colour and finish.

Our Bio Gel Refill + Shellac service includes filling natural nail growth, restoring structure, reshaping and finishing with Shellac polish.

Sometimes removal and a fresh application are more appropriate than a refill. That decision depends on the gel system and the condition of the product and nails. Your technician should explain what they have found before recommending the next step.

Biogel Overlay vs Shellac: Understanding the Difference

A biogel overlay adds structure over the natural nail. Shellac or another compatible gel polish provides the colour finish. At Sparkle, our Bio Gel Overlay + Shellac service includes both.

Seeing Shellac applied at the end of the appointment does not mean the service was a Shellac-only manicure. Likewise, filing can be part of removing old colour or refining the overlay; it does not automatically mean all the gel has been removed.

Understanding which product is on your nails makes biogel overlay maintenance easier to plan. If you are unsure about any step, ask your technician to explain it.

Refills, Optional Extras and Ongoing Cost

Biogel overlay maintenance is the upkeep involved in continuing to wear the overlay. Nail art, additional length and other optional changes serve a different purpose.

A refill recommendation should come with a clear explanation of what needs attention. You should know which service is being recommended, what is included and what it will cost before the work begins.

Before your appointment at Sparkle
  • Confirm your service. An overlay, a refill and a Shellac manicure involve different work.
  • Discuss the timing. Ask when your technician recommends your next maintenance visit.
  • Check the price. Confirm the service cost and any optional additions.
  • Explain your plans. Let us know if you want to keep the overlay, change the length or arrange removal.

You can browse our nail services and listed prices before booking. Knowing the ongoing cost helps you choose a service that fits your routine and budget.

Biogel Overlay Maintenance Between Appointments

Daily care can help reduce unnecessary wear. Avoid picking or peeling the gel, wear gloves when cleaning, and use a tool rather than your nails to open packaging.

Contact the salon if you notice lifting, a crack or discomfort. Do not wait for the scheduled refill simply because three weeks have not passed.

Regular maintenance does not mean every problem is caused by waiting too long. Application, product suitability, nail condition and daily wear can all matter. If something does not feel right, let us know so it can be assessed.

If you no longer want an overlay, ask about professional removal. You do not have to continue getting refills, and pulling the product off yourself can damage the surface of your natural nails.
